    • Oct 31 through Jan 9 - Zoom
      New General Licensing Class

          A free, weekly, live, Amateur Radio General Class Licensing course on Zoom will begin on Thursday, October 31, and will run through Thursday, January 9. (No class on Thanksgiving and Dec 26.) The three-hour sessions will start at 6:30 PM Eastern Time. These are the classes that we have been holding for years sponsored by the Amateur Radio Club of the National Electronics Museum. Prerequisite is to have or be studying for the Technician Class License.
          Please publicize this with anyone you know that you think would be interested.

      Cost: $0, $12 if you want a paper copy of the study guide, a free PDF is also available.
      Testing:* $15 for test $35 for FCC-mandated FRN fee (You do not have to test immediately after).

    SETRAC will be hosting two different HAM Radio programs this month at the SETRAC Conference Center located at 1111 North Loop West, Suite #160, Houston, TX. 77008.
    If you want to attend both sessions, then you MUST register for each one independently. No refunds will be issued for these sessions. If you cannot attend, you may only transfer your registration to another individual for this session. To transfer your registration, please email radio@setrac.org. Space is limited for both sessions so register now!

    1. HAM RADIO 101: The Basics, November 12

    First is the HAM RADIO 101 course. This course is open to both unlicensed and licensed amateur radio operators who want to learn! This class teaches you the basics of amateur radio operation. Here’s what you’ll learn:

    • Basic HAM radio operation
    • Frequencies and transmitting modes
    • Programming your radio
    • Talk to a friend on a simplex channel
    • Talk over a repeater
    • Learn how to join the Houston Area Hospital EmComm Team!
    • Connect with other operators in your field

    Please note: This is NOT a guided study session to obtain an FCC Technician license.

    2. HAM Cram Study & Test Session, November 14

    Second is the HAM Cram Study & Test Session, this guided study session will provide you with the needed tools to take the required FCC test for your technician license. Testing will take place during this session. Before registering, please follow this link to obtain your FRN. This process takes just a few minutes and is required for the day of training. Testing will be provided during this session to receive your FCC license.
